SLS Projects and Initiatives Quarterly Updates

2019 Proposed Projects and Initiatives

Centralized Management of Government Documents:

  • September 9, 2019: Proposed creation of e-Gov Docs Task Force in ACQ-ERM Basecamp: "SUNY Shared Library Services has also received questions about managing e-Gov Docs centrally, and it might be worth setting up a task force to look into this if this was something that you wanted to do."

Centralized Management of e-Resources:

  • November 6, 2019: Proposed initiative to create Network E-Resources Task Force and drafted charge, planned completion March 31, 2020
  • October 31, 2019: Contacted all STAT!Ref participants to remind them to check CZ Updates Task List for STAT!Ref deactivations, 7 outdated titles automatically suppressed 9/29/19 and updated edition not automatically activated. No response from any campus. Confirmed with GCC contact that email was received.
  • October 22, 2019: Posted Proposal to Manage Limited SUNY e-Resource Packages in Network Zone in ACQ-ERM Basecamp, included possible pilot project for managing STAT!Ref centrally, documentation of plan.
  • September 2019: SLS staff ran test of centrally managing STAT!Ref titles in Network Zone on two titles in SUNY Broome, Genesee CC, and Jefferson CC. Learned how to set up inventory groups, identified "inherit activations from Network" campus Alma setting and updated it for campuses. Made sure local campus proxy was applied. Test was successful.

Centralized Management of Electronic Theses and Dissertations:

  • September 2, 2019: SLS brought coordination of ETD to the LSP Advisory Board a week ago, and they indicated that this wasn’t something that the SLC was interested in working on.
  • August & September: OLIS and SLS staff worked through details of harvesting SUNY Theses & Dissertations by collection from DSpace, pursue mismatches in collection numbers, figured out linking issues, set up norm rules, created test view for ETDs in Empire State's Primo VE
  • August 26, 2019: SLS staff wrote FAQ for harvesting DSpace records

Centralized Management of 2003-2006 SUNY Press Collection, previously hosted in EBSCOhost eBooks:

  • November 12, 2019: response to Salesforce case 00745787 notes that local proxies can't be set up in Network Zone for import profile records. Ongoing discussion of best way to move forward. No good set of MARC records exist, collection needs to be proxied at local campus and campus would have to manually add proxy to import profile linking parameter, will continue to pursue.
  • Late October: proof of concept work done by SLS staff, able to set up DSpace harvesting in Network Zone, set up norm rules and Normalization Process Task for external data sources, successful harvesting of 630 records with help from OLIS staff but questions about resource types and local proxies
  • October 9, 2019: discussion of possible hosting of 630 SUNY Press titles published 2003-2006, purchased for all SUNY campuses by OLIS in mid-2000s
