Opening Records in the MD Editor

There are two way bib and holdings records can be opened in the MD Editor:

  1. Using "Edit Records"/"Edit" to open bib/holdings records immediately in the MD Editor editing pane
  2. Using "Push to MDE" allows records to be pushed to the MD Editor for later use

To open a bib record in the editing pane of the MD Editor using "Edit Record":

  1. Perform a repository search for the bib record
  2. Click Edit Record
    • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Click on the ellipses to select "Edit Record" if it is not one of the visible buttons

  1. The record will open in the editing pane of the MD Editor
    • NOTE: When a record is opened in the MD Editor using "Edit Record" it will not have the "Pushed" label under it in the left pane of the MD Editor

To open a holdings records in the editing pane of the MD Editor:

  1. Perform a repository search for the Bib Record
  2. Click "Holdings" from the record
    • Click on the ellipses to select "Holdings" if it is not one of the visible buttons

  1. Click Edit

    • NOTE: Holdings records opened in the MD Editor using "Edit" will not have "Pushed" underneath them in the left pane of the MD Editor

"Push to MDE" Feature of the MD Editor

"Push to MDE" allows the user to push bib and holdings records to the MD Editor for later use. When records are pushed to the MD Editor using this feature, the records will be waiting for the user upon opening the New MD Editor. "Push to MDE" streamlines workflows by eliminating the need for users to open bib or holding record in the editing pane of the MD Editor in order to go back and work on them at a late time. 

Records will not be Pushed to the MD Editor if:

  • A record is locked by another user
  • A record is assigned to another user
  • A user does not have the appropriate cataloging level
    • NOTE: SUNY does not use cataloging levels

Using "Push to MDE" to Move Records to the MD Editor

To push a single bib record to the MD Editor:

  1. Perform a "Title" repository search (All, Physical, Electronic, or Digital Titles search)
  2. Click "Push to MDE" from the ellipses of the bib record being pushed to the MD Editor

Configure View to move "Push to MDE" as a Button:

  1. Click on the "cog" icon for "Manage Display Items" (if it has already been customized it will say "Customize your view" when you hover over it)

  1. Click Show All
  2. Drag and drop "Push to MDE" to the desired position
  3. Click Save

To Push a  bib record or records to the MD Editor:

  1. Perform a "Title" repository search (All, Physical, Electronic, or Digital Titles search)
  2. Click on the box next to the title or titles to be pushed to the MD Editor
  3. Click "Push Selected to MDE"
    • An Information screen tells the user the records have been successfully pushed to the MD Editor
    • Continue to perform "Title" repository searches and push the records to the MD Editor if applicable

  1. Open the MD Editor 
    • The records will be waiting in the MD Editor to be worked on
    • The records that have been pushed to the MD Editor will have a "PUSHED" tag in the left pane
    • Make sure correct record type tab is selected to view the pushed records waiting in the MD Editor
    • The records are not locked until they are opened in the editing pane of the MD Editor

  1. Click on the record in the left-pane to open it in the editing pane of  the MD Editor

  1. Perform a repository search for the title
  2. Click Holdings
    • Select Holdings from the ellipsis if it is not a Holdings button
  3. Click Push to MDE

  1. Perform a repository search for the title
  2. Click Holdings
    • Select Holdings from the ellipsis if it is not a Holdings button
  3. Click on the box(es) next to the holdings records to be pushed to the MD Editor
