Charge

The Empire Library Delivery contracts between ESLN and the vendor and ESLN and SUNY expires in June 2023. The Empire Library Delivery Task Force will work closely in an advisory capacity with SUNY Library Services (SLS) to help coordinate and strategically address how to approach SUNY Libraries’ approach to ELD or a common courier after the SUNY-wide contract expires. If SUNY does not have a central contract, centralized payment will be impossible, and campuses will need to pay for courier services individually, which could lead to some campuses opting not to participate unless there are SUNY library policies developed.

The Future of Shared SUNY Library Courier Task Force will work with SLS on the following:

  • Identifying metrics that will be used to evaluate the service and to justify and analyze an approach moving forward.
  • Creation of policies related to service expectations for physical resource sharing, or SUNY-wide participation in a courier service.
  • Coordinating outreach to SUNY sectors and evaluating the input received from them.
  • Developing policy proposals for how SUNY libraries will support reciprocal resource sharing
  • Reviewing other SUNY policies that may be impacted by the final decision and proposing changes if necessary

SLS will gather all needed data, manage outreach sessions, create forms needed for gathering input from sectors, and coordinate with the ELD Advisory Board and ESLN. The Empire Library Delivery Task Force will act in an advisory capacity to the SLS to provide input to the SLS and help facilitate communication to and from the larger SUNY library community.
